Puzzle of Collage

나의 작업은 이미 오래 전부터 일상에 저변화되어 가장 친숙한 매개체 이자 회화의 대지인 종이라는 재료에 대한 관심으로 출발하여 재료의 본질적인 특성이해와 기법 연구 즉 연성 조각 오브제의 발전적 모색의 시도라고 할 수 있다. 

 

소멸 콜라쥬의 자발적 희생 - 공간의 이동과 확장 

 

하나의 완전한 이미지를 자르고, 찢고, 나눔으로써 기존 이미지를 완전히 소멸시킨다. 
마티에르의 융통성과 무게, 방향 그리고 특성을 이용한 파편의 조각은 시각적, 촉각적 외에도 제한 점 없이 무엇이든 잘 조화되고 융합되어진다는 특성을 갖는다. 프레임 영역에서 벗어난 가변성의 파편의 조각들은 순회과정을 통해 다음 차기작으로 화면에 병합, 배치 되어지거나 다른 새로운 이미지를 만들어 낸다. 이러한 반복된 작업은 이질성과 방향의 무질서를 만들어 가변적이며 중첩된 이미지의 끊임없는 배치와 병합의 작업 속에서 끊임없는 자리찾기로인해 방향성의 다양함과 추상적 화면구성을 만들어낸다. Pieces 의 순회작업은 기존 격성재료들의 마찰을 만들어 거친 표면을 생성시켜 그림자가 있는 3차원적인 네트워크로 변형되어 촉각적 시각적 이미지를 형상화시키거나 프레임 밖으로 완전히 나와 독립적 오브제로 표현되어진다. 파편의 순회작업은 퍼즐 맞추기와 같다. 각기 다른 이미지들의 구성적 충돌과 기존이미지들의 자발적 희생으로 만들어진 파편의 조각은 마치 정해진 자리가 있는 퍼즐게임처럼 완성되어진다. 하나를 여러 개로 나누고 하나로 합쳐지는 퍼즐의 과정은 작품의 다양한 구성도의 재미와 완성도를 높여주며 나아가 다양한 장르를 열어주는 가능성을 제시한다.

Artist Statement

​

Extinction and expansion – Puzzle of collage

​

My work does not intend to embody certain narration or story but starts from the concern for the material called paper which has been the most familiar media and the earth of painting in our daily life since long ago. It is aimed at understanding the essential property of the material, researching the technique, and considering the formative seeking of the ductile material. 
Like this, the paper as a material was added in the form of fragment and introduced to the screen by using the collage technique, and was expressed as my own formative language called the extinction-expansion by newly reinterpreting the concept formation of collage called the “severance-continuance”. 
Movement of extinction collage and the expansion of space 
The technical meaning of this collage is that this media and other materials are overlapped and juxtaposed in the form of fragment. This application technique of my work leads to the pictorial behavior of bringing fragment and is the voluntary sacrifice for this work not the heterogeneous piece of other media, and complete images of this work are entirely disassembled in the form of fragment collage. These images of left former work are left in the empty space to be reinterpreted as the concept formation called the extinction of screen.  
This enormous sacrifice is the same technique as combining heterogeneous images in the collage form and this screen, and the paper collage in the form of dismantled fragment is converted into the form of abstract screen by destroying and changing the concrete image of this screen. 
It is also possible to analogize the trace of the extinct collage by destroying and decomposing the scrap paper attached to the final screen once again. The collage of the fragment away from the screen is expressed as the next work, moving to another screen composition or it is exposed to the drawing paper of empty space and various collages are juxtaposed to make a new object sculpture.  
As the material paper intervenes in the screen, it is separated as the two-dimensional plane painting of the papier colle and this piece of moving collage is attempted by the variability that is the property of material and the autonomous relief form, and finally it will be installed as the three-dimensional space composition forming the collage object.
