작가노트
물고기를 좋아하여 그리는 것이 아니다.
떠올려지는 물고기 형상이 머리 속을 헤엄친다.
물고기는 최대한 간결한 이미지이다.
이 물고기는 물고기가 아니다. 인간을 대변한다.
멀리 보이는 별은 별일까 돌덩이일까.
인간은 왜 밤하늘의 별을 사랑하는가.
가까이서 보면 돌덩이리와 다를 것이 없는데
멀리서 보면 반짝이는 별이 된다.
인간은 왜 멀리있는 아름다움을 사랑하는가.
인간은 내면의 어둠이 넓어질 때 별을 찾는다.
인간은 빛에서 태어났고, 빛이 없으면 무생물이 되어 버린다.
어둠으로 가득찬 밤의 별 빛은 빛이 없는 곳에서 빛을 발하기에 희망을 노래한다.
인간에게 별이란 희망이다.
내면의 밝음이 넓어질 땐 빛에 가까이갈 용기가 생긴다.
그러면 별은 빛이 아니라 커다란 돌덩이였음을 인지한다.
그 돌덩이는 어디서든 볼 수 있는 그런 돌덩어리들과 그리 다르지 않다.
돌덩이는 산에서도 바다에서도 우리가 걷는 길 위에서도 그리고 바로 발 밑에서도 볼 수 있다.
말도 제대로 못하는 아주 작은 아이가 작은 돌덩이를 줍는다.
작은 손의 돌덩이는 아주 소중하게 쥐어져 있다. 누구에게도 뺏기지 않을 것처럼.
아이는 다른 돌덩이를 발견하여 줍는다. 쥐고 있던 돌은 버리지 않고 엄마에게 건넨다.
두번째 주운 돌도 꼭 쥐고 있다.
그 순간에 작은 돌덩이 하나는 아이에게 가장 소중한 ‘것’이 되었다.
생명체는 본다. 빛이 있기에 본다. 그러나 인간인 우리는 다르게 본다.
우리 인간의 본다는 마음에 달려 있다. 인간의 눈은 마음에 자리한다.
마음으로 보는 관점에 따라 돌덩이는 흔하디 흔한 돌덩이가 아닐 수 있다.
인간을 대변하는 물고기. 헤엄친다.
돌덩이 안에서 그리고 돌덩이들 사이에서.
이 물고기는 돌덩이들 사이에서 무엇을 볼까.
돌덩이를 볼까. 별을 볼까.

Artist's Note
I don't draw fish because I like them.
The fish-shaped images that come to mind swim through my head.
The fish is a simple image as much as possible.
This fish is not a fish. It represents a human.
Is the distant star a star or a rock?
Why do humans love the stars in the night sky?
Up close, they are no different from rocks,
but from a distance, they become sparkling stars.
Why do humans love distant beauty?
Humans seek stars when the darkness within expands.
Humans were born from light, and without light, they become lifeless.
The starlight on a dark night sings of hope, shining where there is no light.
For humans, stars symbolize hope.
When the inner brightness expands, the courage to approach the light emerges.
Then the star is realized not to be light but a large rock.
That rock is not much different from the rocks we can see anywhere—on mountains,
in the sea, on the paths we walk, and right under our feet.
A very small child who can barely speak properly picks up a small rock.
The small rock in the little hand is held very preciously, as if it won't be taken away by anyone.
The child discovers another rock and picks it up. Without letting go of the rock they already had,
they hand it to their mother.
The second rock they picked up is also firmly held.
In that moment, one small rock becomes the most precious "thing" to the child.
Living beings see. They see because there is light. But we, humans, see differently.
Our human way of seeing depends on the heart. Human eyes reside in the heart.
Depending on the perspective of seeing with the heart, a rock may not be just an ordinary rock.
The fish representing humans swims.
Inside the rocks and among the rocks.
What does this fish see among the rocks?
Does it see the rocks or the stars?
